US Business Strategy for an Italian Specialist

MP is an Italian stainless steel manufacturer marketing a unique and proprietary technology to produce Olympic-size swimming pools that are used for major international swimming meets. The company supports the global market from its central manufacturing site in Italy and operates numerous sales, marketing and service subsidiaries in all major international market. MP had appointed a British citizen, internationally renowned swimming coach as president of the newly formed US Division. Though highly capable, technology-savvy and charismatic, he had limited expertise in operating a business in North America.
 
Action
We were asked to assist in designing and implementing a concise, effective and efficient business structure and organization for the company’s business activities, assisting the CEO in establishing appropriate processes and procedures, and acquiring additional, targeted resources. We engaged in a consulting contract, incorporating placement fees .
 
Results
At the end of six months MP was a fully functioning US Company, with competent and highly effective sales, engineering administration and marketing resources place in the US. Details include: Providing client with access to various, essential administrative support services (International Accounting firm, local insurance agency, bank, and attorney); recruiting and integrating bilingual (English/Italian) Operations Manager to set up office and warehouse and establish the US business connections with supervision and approval from Italy; conducting searches and intergrating two sales representatives for commercial and residential products to report to the US President, with dotted line to the Italian sales and marketing team; recruitj g Mechanical Engineer to work with US clients and Italian engineers; recruiting and integrating US Marketing Director to work with Italian PR/Advertising and Corporate Marketing; Recruiting and integrating bilingual (English/Italian) designer; developing HR process & procedure structure, handbook and principles
 
Subsequent to that initial engagement, we established an ongoing relationship with the company and provide strategic business management support, sales & marketing assistance and personnel searches as they continue to grow. Since the end of the original contract we have enjoyed an ongoing successful business relationship for the last 12 years.
